Apple IIGS: Il Vertice della Tecnologia nella Famiglia Apple II

L’Apple IIGS rappresenta il culmine della serie di computer Apple II, distinguendosi come il modello più potente e avanzato della famiglia. Lanciato da Apple Computer, questo computer personale a 16 bit ha segnato una svolta significativa per la tecnologia dell’epoca, grazie alle sue capacità multimediali avanzate, in particolare per quanto riguarda l’audio e la grafica.

L’Apple IIGS, dove “GS” sta per “Graphics and Sound”, ha introdotto specifiche tecniche che lo hanno reso un concorrente diretto di sistemi come l’Amiga e l’Atari ST, con una risoluzione e colori simili. Equipaggiato con un processore micro 16-bit 65C816, il IIGS offriva un accesso diretto a megabyte di memoria RAM e includeva un mouse, una novità per i computer Apple di quel tempo.

Design e Interfaccia Utente

Con un’estetica che ricordava quella dei Macintosh, l’Apple IIGS è stato il primo computer della casa di Cupertino a integrare un’interfaccia grafica utente a colori, anticipando di sei mesi il Macintosh II. Inoltre, è stato il primo computer personale ad adottare la tecnologia di sintesi wavetable per l’audio, sfruttando i chip prodotti da Ensoniq, che ha elevato significativamente la qualità del suono prodotto dai computer domestici.

Connettività e Espandibilità

L’introduzione del Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) ha permesso di collegare tastiere, mouse e altri dispositivi di input in modo più semplice, migliorando l’interazione con l’utente e la versatilità del sistema.

Nonostante il grande potenziale e gli avanzamenti tecnologici, l’Apple IIGS non ha goduto di una lunga produzione. Apple ha deciso di concentrare le sue risorse sullo sviluppo della linea Macintosh, cessando la produzione dell’IIGS nel dicembre del 1992.
